BREAKING NEWS: Teixera To Yankees

When all seemed quiet in the Bronx, Mark Teixera agreed to a deal with the Yankees. The deal is worth $160 million over 8 years. New York has spent $423.5 million in salary in the last month, grabbing C.C Sabathia and A.J Burnett. The Yankees now hold the four highest-paid players in Major League Baseball, including third baseman Alex Rodriguez, shortstop Derek Jeter and C.C Sabathia. Teixiera appeared to have narrowed his choices between the Red Sox and Nationals, until the Yankees swooped down and offered him a deal you can't pass up.

Teixera now completes the Yankees lineup, providing the power they need in the middle of the order. The Yankees have found the first baseman they have searched for continously in the offseason. Teixera provides the bat they want, and also is an excellent fielder.

You can say the Yankees are similar to the Boston Celtics, since they have got their Big 3, with Sabathia, Burnett and Teixera. But don't forget about Jeter, A-Rod, Wang, Cano, Nady, and Posada. The Yankees lineup contains many all star appearances, a Cy Young winner, an MVP, and muliple gold glove performers.

The New Look Yankees

What do the Yankees do after having an unsuccessful season? They bring out their wallets. While the economy is struggling, the Yankees are throwing out money like Lil Wayne. The organization does not take losing easy. Their idea of improving is going after the top notch free agents in the market.

First stop, C.C Sabathia. The Yankees needed to pull out a lot of money, $161 million to be exact which will be over a 7 year span. Sabathia receives $9.5 million before even stepping out of the dugout. C.C told reporters, " With the economy being the way it is ... the huge amount of money, it was, you know, pretty crazy." The Yankees hope he can bring his 17 wins over to the Bronx.

Next stop, A.J Burnett. The Yankees once again threw out the money to Burnett, $82.5 over 6 years. Burnett receives annual salaries of $16.5 million and, like Sabathia, has a no-trade provision. Burnett led the AL in strikeouts last season, recording 231 K's.

Last stop, the Yankees are in talks with bringing back Andy Pettitte. There are still big time free agents out on the market. The Yankees need a first baseman, which could possibly be Mark Teixiera. In addition, don't count out the Yankees making a late run at Manny Ramirez.

So how much money are the Yankees putting out. With the agreements, New York has committed about $159 million to 14 players for next year.

Marlins Re-Sign Top Pitcher, Angels Bring Back Rivera

The Florida Marlins and pitcher Josh Johnson have agreed to a 1 year, $1.4 million contract. Johnson began his season last year in July, finishing with a 7-1 record and 77 strikeouts. He also supported a 3.61 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. In 3 seasons, Johnson is 19-11, going 0-3 in 2007 with an injury plagued year. This season he is expected to be the Opening Day starter for the Marlins.

The Angels came to terms with Juan Rivera, a 3 year, 12.75 million contract. Last season, he batted .246 with 12 home runs. The signing of Rivera appears to mean that the Angels have no interest in free agent LF Manny Ramirez. The Angels currently have 5 outfielders on their roster.
