Ovechkin Carries Caps In OT

The Capitals traveled to New York to battle it out against the Islanders this Tuesday. The game was controlled by the Capitals for the first 2 periods. With 3:25 left in the 2nd, Ovechkin found the net, scoring his 18th goal of the season. The Islanders stormed back in the 3rd, with goals from Andy Sutton and Jon Sim. When the horn went off, regulation ended with a 4-4 tie.

In overtime, both sides couldn't find many good shots. Ovechkin had a great chance, but was unsuccessul and play continued. With under a minute left, Ovechkin took over. The seconds kept on ticking off, until with 10.7 left, when Ovechkin pulled off a lethal wrist shot into the top corner for his 20th of the season. The overtime goal was the 6th in his career, with 5 coming on the road.

The Capitals are 21-1-1 in the last 23 games when Ovechkin has scored. The loss for the Islanders made their record against the Eastern Conference, 7-16-3. The Capitals improved to 19-10-3, while the Islanders continue their poor season with a 10-18-3 record.
